Our Value and Why We Decided to Change Our Style

During 2020 and 2021, we lost several family members from old to young (for reasons not related to COVID). Looking back after they passed, the photos we took over the last few years meant so much more to us. Prior to that experience, our style was much more glamorized – heavier makeup, more photoshop, etc. And there’s nothing wrong with that; that’s a fun kind of photoshoot too. But after realizing the photos of family we want to hang in our house are the photos where they look like themselves, we changed our business from beauty portraits to classic portraits. Don’t get me wrong, I still like beauty portraits (our fine-art images are definitely more stylized too, and I don’t think everyone should be taking portrait photos thinking “I might die tomorrow” but during those two years we realized how unpredictable and not guaranteed our lives are.

Looking back at our photos, I wish I had taken more of the people we lost. I believe a good image showing a person’s true self is a gift to the family for generations to come. I know we treasure the images of our family we have, even as we wish we had more.

We realized that we take photos today for ourselves, but the legacy we create today will continue to live into the future. I take photos of my daughter all the time now (she is probably one of more well-documented kids out there!lol). These photos are my treasures now, and they will eventually become her treasures, and maybe someday her kids’ treasure.

With this inspiration, our portrait focuses on showing you as you – in your best light, as radiant as others see you, but recognizably yourself. I hope each photo we take captures the love and joy of our subjects for you and your family to remember forever.

Yes, this was an unnecessarily heavy topic (lol) but this became one of my biggest motivations to take photos today so I wanted to share. :) Thanks for taking your time to read this!
